Palembang-Melaka Historic Cruise in Honour of the Melaka 750-year Celebration

The event is held by Melaka State Government to commemorate the historic voyage of Parameswara (the founder of Malacca Sultanate) from Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia to Malacca, Malaysia since 750 years ago.
On 25 September 2012, the cruise participated by 25 participants set off on the sailing by Tunas Samudera of the Majesty Sailing Ship (KLD, Kapal Layar Diraja) from Pelabuhan Melaka Banda Hilir. The departure of this historic sailing was officially lauched by the Chairman of Tourism and Culture State Committee, Datuk Wira Latiff Tamby Chik. Kapal Layar Diraja (KLD) Tunas Samudera is owned by Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM, Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia) that has been sailing around the world in 2007 and 2008.
The cruise successfully arrived at Pelabuhan Boom Baru, Palembang, South Sumatera around 1pm on Sep 29. “Parasmeswara conducted the journey from Palembang to Malacca, so this year his voyage will be carried out again,” said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam who is also the president of DMDI during the 13th Islamic World Malay World (DMDI) convention from Oct 1 to Oct 3, 2012 being held in Palembang Indonesia. The cruise will return to Melaka again on Oct 3 that will be embarked by Melaka Yang di-Pertua, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and accompanied by Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
The approximate arrival time is 5pm on Oct 7. The historic cruise is expected to attract more tourists from Indonesia to the historical state of Malacca (Malacca was declared as a World Heritage City by UNESCO on 7 July 2008). The public is kindly invited to attend the event being held at Dataran Sungai Melaka this Sunday at 4pm to witness & welcome the return of the Palembang-Melaka Historic Cruise and share the successful celebration in honour of the historic voyage of the late Parameswara.
