Beautiful floating mosque at the straits of Malacca.

The Malacca Straits Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia. It is also known as Masjid Selat Melaka as it is located on the busiest and longest straits. It is built on a man-made island, Pulau Melaka. When the tide is high, the mosque looks like it is floating in the ocean. The opening ceremony was done by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail on 24 November 2006. The driveway scenery was breathtaking as you get to see the full coast of Malacca city. It has become an attraction for photography.

The impressive modern architecture of the mosque is said to be a combination of Middle Eastern and the Malays craftsmanship.

If you are driving here, parking your car will not be a problem as sufficient parking lot is provided. There is a mini convenience store nearby for visitors. The mosque is more of a tourist site compared to a place of worship as there is more tourist around. The mosque also provides robes for tourist who do not dress appropriately to enter the mosque. There are four small complementary domes in every corner of the mosque. Under the dome, there is a large prayer room that measures 24 square metres and can accommodate 1500 people.

Apart from the physical beauty of the mosque, the natural beauty of the sunset view here is beautiful. Many tourist and also worshippers would come early and wait until the sunsets before going into the mosque to pray. As Hari Raya Aidilfitri is coming soon, those who want to do their Hari Raya prayers are more than welcome. One thing for sure, visiting Malacca would be incomplete if they did not visit Malacca Straits Mosque. It is not only a name but it is also able to lure tourists to this historic state every year. So if you are in Malacca be sure to stop by and enjoy the beautiful scenery and architecture design of the mosque.
